The problem of acne becomes a common complaint of many people, both men and women. One procedure for removing acne that is being loved is corticosteroid injections. Although effective, what is the impact if you frequently do acne injections?
Negative effects due to frequent injection of acne
Acne skin does make you annoyed. Besides reducing self-confidence, acne often causes pain. If you are desperate to find ways to get rid of pimples on the face, corticosteroid injections or acne shots can be an option.Corticosteroid injections are also known as intralesional corticosteroid injections. This injection is actually used to treat large lumps on the skin. In addition to shrinking the lump, this injection is also used as a pimple skin treatment so it is called an acne injection.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, corticosteroid injections can flatten lumps in the skin within 48-72 hours. Although not completely gone, swollen pimples can shrink, the pain and redness can be reduced. Within a week, acne will usually disappear.
The injection results may be satisfactory for most people with acne prone skin. However, that does not mean this procedure can be done at will. Frequency of acne injection can actually damage skin tissue.
This happens because of excess corticosteroids that enter the skin. As a result, the area of the skin injected gets too much pressure so the skin looks like a hole (pockmarked). This condition can indeed recover, but will take a long time, about 6 months after the last injection.
Besides being pockmarked, frequent injections of acne can also cause changes in skin color, such as white spots (hypopigmentation). This is usually common in people with dark skin color. Just like pockmarked, the spots will fade over time.

The good thing is, what should I do if I get a zit injection?
You may only inject acne, it's just not too frequent. You need to know, corticosteroid injections can indeed help acne disappear faster, but this method cannot stop the formation of zits on the face. Therefore, instead of relying on acne injections, it would be better if you take care of your skin's cleanliness every day and use the medicine as prescribed by the doctor.
Your doctor may recommend salicylic acid, topical retinoids, or isotretinoin according to the severity of your acne.
In order not to get too frequent, you certainly need to consider a few things before deciding whether to get a zit injection. Some things that make your acne injections better, include:
Acne is inflamed for months and is difficult to treat
Acne is quite large, swollen, and painful
You have to attend an important event so you need a zit injection to make it look better
Then, don't forget to take notes whenever you do a zit injection. Explain when you last did the injection before doing it again.
Frequency of acne injections is clearly not a good impact. That is why, you need to know the following rules to support the treatment of doctors in treating acne prone skin, such as:
Avoid touching your face with your hands. In addition to squeezing, touching your face with your hands that are not necessarily clean can make acne worse.
Relieve pain from acne by using ice cubes. Wrap ice cubes with a tissue or soft towel and then paste on inflamed pimples. Cold temperatures can help reduce pain as well as swelling.
